It all started when my wife, Holly, said “Let’s get a group together!” So she and I and Thomasa (my sis’) and Bob Kechley did a concert in 1999 as the Hubert Ensemble (we made “Hubert” out of the initials of our first names—H, B, R, T). The concert earned us the “Best Debut” of the year from the Seattle Weekly.
Eventually, it morphed into the Bird Tribe Orchestra, and currently includes me (Richard III aka Rich Eckert), Sid Law (my bro’), Thomasa, and Matthew Lyon (Thomasa’s husband). We are joined frequently by Holly (my wife), Deb Kirkland, and Bob Kechley.
Together, we combine many talents, whimsies and influences in creating quirkily unique shows that alternately touch and tickle the senses of our audience. Musical styles finding a home on our programs include folk, rock, jazz, classical, new age, and hiphop. Our signature sound customarily includes vocals, fiddle, cello, guitars, and percussion, but we will add such instruments as melodica, ocarina, and sheep’s horn on occasion.
